An Introduction to the Fundamentals of Subspace Manipuation, 16th Edition, or IFOSM 16, follows the Storven-born individual from whom Amber receives her ability to pocket during the first chapters of Pockets. IFOSM 16 is set decades prior to the events of Pockets. Ab’gill, or as Amber knew her, Abagale, is beginning her first years at the institution for magical sciences, Prabao, where she begins to discover Prabao’s most thoroughly kept secret — the development of the powerful pocketting technique of establishing a ‘fold’.

This means that I mostly don’t know how the story will play out. I am a ‘pantser’ when writing, which means I tend to throw my characters in a situation and see how they react, and simply write as they act. That being said, I know how things will begin already, and I’ve made some progress in developing the path forwards. I have a pretty good idea of how this novel will end, but I haven’t written it yet.
When I read and watch visual media, I mostly tune out during fight scenes. I know that fight scenes are a crucial component of media for many people, and I want to learn to appreciate them myself, so I’m using IFOSM 16 as a sort of study into fights. IFOSM 16 will contain many more fight scenes than Pockets, and I hope that in writing them my writing skill will develop and grow.
As with Pockets, there is an element of romance in IFOSM 16. In IFOSM 16, the main character, Ab’gill, is queer.
